College Admissions Process: Made Less Stressful

Are you overwhelmed with the college search and college admissions process?

If you are a first timer in the college search arena, you will be overwhelmed by the amount of information that you will have to plow through in order to get all of the information that you need to make a well-informed decision. The college search process is cumbersome to say the least even for the seasoned student/parent because of the amount of information that you will have to go through before you can send out your application.

You will use college view books, college handbooks and the Internet to get most of the information that you will need in this process. Your guidance counselor/college adviser will provide you with guidance that will point you in the right direction. You and your parents will do most of the legwork.

What do colleges look for in a prospective student?

The most important piece that the college admissions representatives are looking for in a prospective student is the strength of your transcript. A transcript is a record of your grades from freshman year in high school to the first quarter of your senior year. They will look at your grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 system, your class rank and your SAT/ACT scores to begin with.

The admissions officer will also look at your activities (resume), counselor recommendations, teacher recommendations and any special talent that you may possess before making their final decision of whether to admit you or not. For some of the selective colleges, your race, ethnic group and where your high school is located will be considered in the admissions process because these schools want to be as diverse as possible.

Would you like to lessen the stress and make this college admissions process more manageable?

College search, college admissions, applying to college and paying for college should not be a stressful process if you approach the game of admissions with all of the necessary information and guidance that will help you navigate this process with a realistic and practical attitude. This whole process from the beginning to the end can be less stressful and less anxiety ridden if you follow the guidelines of your guidance counselor/college adviser.

Your guidance counselor/adviser will provide you with all of the information that you will need to find the college of your choice, apply to college and pay for college. You must be proactive in helping yourself to get the education that you will need to create a foundation for a good life. Work as close as you can with your guidance office/college advising office throughout this process.
